This is the kind of thing you come across when wandering around the BBC. I think it might have something to do with Children in Need.

Head to head Edinburgh University vs Glasgow University novice rowing-machine race. A 2000m distance covered by a relay of 500m segments. To facilitate easy changeovers team-mates hold on to feet rather than use the toe straps. The rest of the rowing club provides encouragement. The race was judged to be a dead heat this year.

Gotta start somewhere, I guess. This morning, I got back on the rowing machine. It has been awhile–like a month, maybe more. I’ve been in a funk…I really don’t like exercising, hence the title of this picture. You really have to strap me in. But I’ve got to do something. This is getting out of control. So I’m starting with a little exercise, a little healthier eating–more consistency. I’m always trying to do both of those things, just not consistently.
I didn’t post this on my blog, because, well…there’s just a lot of family pressure to be fit as a fiddle, which I am not. Pressure out of love, but still pressure that’s hard for me to take some times. Everyone around here is fit as a fiddle. I think they measure success in life by how much you exercise. So I wouldn’t be doing too well, on that front then…I’m sure some of the pressure is "perceived pressure", and maybe some guilt on my part, too. I know I’ll feel better if I just start somewhere. I did ten minutes this morning. I’ll try to find some more time again later today. Which means staying in my black workout pants all day. At least they’re comfortable. It’s hard to keep my kids from bugging me while I exercise. Mary was pulling the ipod off of me, Emma was standing behind me pushing on my back. Everyone wants something the minute I sit down to row.
Gotta start somewhere. Gotta start somewhere. Getting healthy.

After all of those up close lighting experiments I just wanted to move the camera away a bit today. Take in the whole caboodle for a change. Fortunately the garage floor was mostly dry this morning - after all the rains yesterday evening flooded in under the door.
Reminder - must sort out the drainage…

moments after rachel finished rowing a few thousand meters, nick walked over and asked if he could do a workout, so we strapped him in and he cut loose. there’s no variable resistance on this thing, its only geared for an adult rower — but nobody told him that!
